Please attend the Friends of Camp Mather public meeting on Wednesday, September 6, 7:00pm to express concern for incidents at the Yosemite location run by Chaparral. Camp Mather is another City of San Francisco trail ride venue, run by the same outfit that holds the trail ride concession in Golden Gate Park.

A former Camp Mather wrangler reports that during the 2023 summer season:

• Chaparral provided no experienced on-site management of the business providing daily rides to hundreds of guests. A handful of seasonal staff were left alone to manage on their own in this remote location. 
• Chaparral gave staff one day of training on horse care, trails, and terrain.
• Horses were trucked in that had not been ridden for many months and had not been trained for safe trail riding work at this location.
• Seasonal staff were given no documented procedures for how to handle emergency incidents. 
• Several riding accidents took place involving staff and guests, including children at the camp as young at three years old. 
• Horses were also injured, including a horse with a broken leg that was left in a corral for 20 hours with no care. 

The Friends of Camp Mather and the San Francisco Parks department can do better.
