Good morning - I just confirmed that is County Commissioners are NOT required to attend the meeting on Thursday, January 18, 2018 at 6 PM in the Multi-Purpose Building, County Fairgrounds, 543350 US HWY 1, Callahan, Florida. The "Fact Finding Committee" will be present and consists of the Mike Mullin, County Attorney, Shanea Jones, County Manager and Tim Maguire, Director of Animal Services. As stated in previous public notices, the intent of this meeting is to hear public opinion and comments regarding a prohibition on unattended dog tethering, transporting animals (dogs) in open vehicles and other animal welfare concerns. There isn't any AV equipment available for PowerPoint presentations, etc. Public comment will be limited to three minutes. Please attend the meeting to support animal welfare improvements. If you haven't already done so, send the commissioners an email telling them that as a citizen of Nassau County and a registered voter you want to them to update our animal welfare laws to include attended tethering only and to pass other improvements to ensure that animals receive a minimal amount of care. For example, the dog is visible from a window in the house. Animals do not have to be provided with clean water in a clean container. A retention pond is acceptable. A shelter consists of three sides, a roof and a floor. This could be an abandoned automobile or an old refrigerator.
