A Special Commissioners meeting has been scheduled for January 18, 2018 at 6 PM in the Multi-Purpose Building, County Fairgrounds, 543350 US HWY 1, Callahan, Florida to address the proposed updates to our animal ordinance. Did you know that under our current ordinance: Dogs can be chained and unsupervised 24/7 on farms or if they are in visible range of a responsible party. For example, the dog is visible from a window in the house. Animals do not have to be provided with clean water in a clean container. A retention pond is acceptable. A shelter consists of three sides, a roof and a floor. This could be an abandoned automobile or an old refrigerator. What can you do to change the ordinance? 1) Attend the meeting and tell commissioners that you want this ordinance updated. Everyone has up to three minutes to speak. 2) Share this information with your friends 3) Immediately send an email to Tim Maguire, Director of Nassau County Animal Control stating that you support updated the ordinance, including attended tethering only. Send a copy to Nassau Commissioners. Only a sentence or two in support is all the is needed. If you are a Nassau County resident and a registered voter, be sure to state that in your email. tmaguire@nassaucountyfl.com Tim Maguire Commissioners: skelley@nassaucountyfl.com Steve Kelly dleeper@nassaucountyfl.com Danny Leeper gspicer@nassaucountyfl.com George Spicer pedwards@nassaucountyfl.com Pat Edwards jtaylor@nassaucountyfl.com Justin Taylor Thanks for speaking for those without a voice - Look for an update soon after the meeting.
