On Monday, November 27, 2017 at 6:00 PM in the James S. Page Government Complex at 96135 Nassau Place in Yulee, Florida the Director of Nassau County Animal Services will update the Commission by providing tethering statistics for the most recent three months. Nassau County allows dogs to be tethered unattended for twelve hours in a 24-hour period or if the animal is within visual range. If you cannot attend the meeting, write the commissioners and let them know how you feel about this important topic. It is more effective if you use your words, but here is an example: Dear Commissioner: Please remove dogs from tethers in Nassau County and pass attended tethering only. Please update the definitions of enclosure, shelter, water requirements, tether and abandonment. Add an ordinance that allows only shelter/rescue dogs, cats and rabbits to be sold by commercial establishments and on government property in Nassau County. With the addition of Leon County nearly 60% of Florida’s population cannot tether their dog and leave it unattended. The City of Fernandina Beach passed a similar ordinance in May.
