Child Friendly Housing Coalition of Alberta

Wow, what a week!
We are very pleased that the Alberta Human Rights Act will soon better protect the rights of children in housing, specifically in rental apartments and new condo buildings. We have come a long way since we first began as a coalition and this is a real victory for us!
However, we are disappointed with the 15 year transition period for existing age-restricted condos. We believe 15 years is an extremely long period of time to continue discriminating against children and their caregivers in housing and this lengthy time frame poses undue hardship on an entire generation of condo dwellers.
We believe that children have a right to housing and that equal housing opportunities are essential for building stronger, more vibrant communities. 15 years is simply too long for our families and communities to continue to suffer. While we are pleased to see changes unfolding, the GOA needs to tighten this gap! #15years
