The Issue
Every year, millions of Texans are forced to adjust their clocks for Daylight Savings Time (DST), but science has made it clear: this outdated practice is harming our health, increasing the risk of disease, and disrupting our natural rhythms. It’s time for Texas to eliminate DST permanently and adopt Standard Time year-round ”the time that best aligns with our bodies natural circadian cycles.
The Problem
Heart Attacks & Strokes Increase Heart attack risk jumps 24% and strokes increase 8% in the days following the clock change (New England Journal of Medicine, European Journal of Preventive Cardiology).
Circadian Rhythm Disruption = Chronic Disease Our biological clocks are regulated by natural light and darkness. DST throws off sleep cycles, increasing the risk of obesity, diabetes, mental health issues, and immune dysfunction (American Academy of Sleep Medicine).
