The Issue

Springdale Borough, Pennsylvania has long suffered under the leadership of Police Chief Derek Dayoub. Over the years, Dayoub has faced multiple civil lawsuits alleging excessive force, false charges, and harassment. He was fired from his previous department for writing “falsified” reports. He was criminally charged with assault, though charges were later dropped. He had a PFA granted against him by a former partner. He signed a 287(g) agreement without public discussion, potentially violating Pennsylvania’s Sunshine Act in the process.

Dayoub has created a police force that prioritizes intimidation, harassment, and wasteful spending. We have nine police officers for a community less than one square mile, and the department is actively recruiting more full-time officers. Attempts at complaints to the police department, mayor, and council members have gone unanswered for years.

Our demands are clear: we need a leader who respects all community members, upholds the law with integrity, and fosters an environment of trust and transparency. The end of Police Chief Derek Dayoub's contract is imperative for the healing and rebuilding of our community’s trust in law enforcement and council.

We urge the Springdale Borough Council to take decisive action and:

  • Ask for Chief Dayoub's resignation, end the existing contract, or vote NO on renewing his contract;
  • Prohibit him from employment by the Borough or its agencies, and ban him from serving on any committees or boards associated with the Borough;
  • Appoint a new police chief who prioritizes transparency, accountability, and community engagement.

We also urge council members to look outside of the current department for a new leader, signaling a truly fresh start. Together, we can advocate for a safer, more just Springdale.

Sign this petition to stand with us in demanding justice and effective leadership. Together, we will make our voices heard and bring about needed change.

Please Note: We believe the petition's power is most effective if signed by current residents of Springdale Borough, but we recognize that the police department's activities within the school district and surrounding communities have a wide impact, and that former residents have also been affected by the police chief's actions. All who live in the Allegheny Valley area, along with former residents, are welcome to sign.
