In a society where corporations wield significant power, it is especially important to consider who we grant such authority. As a concerned Canadian citizen, I am outraged and disturbed by the British Columbia Ferries Corporation engaging in business with Starlink, a company owned by Elon Musk. This situation casts a dark shadow over our democracy and our sovereignty.

Elon Musk, a man known for using his vast wealth and influence to undermine free elections, represents a threat to Canadian democracy. It is troubling to note that he actively promotes dangerous, far-right ideologies globally - ideologies that are in stark contrast to the principles that Canadian society holds dear.

For a Crown corporation like BC Ferries Corporation to engage in business with any of Musk's companies undermines our democratic values. Our government-owned companies should be upheld as standard bearers of corporate responsibility, serving the interests of the people first and foremost.

In addition, there is growing international concern over Starlink’s operations. In fact, the French space agency has complained that Starlink satellites pose a problem for the world's astronomers by blocking views of the universe with bright streaks (source: BBC News). Musk’s ventures are not only political in nature, but also have a global negative impact.

We have to make our voices heard. BC Ferries Corporation should end its contract and stop all business activities with Starlink immediately. Our Canadian values, democracy and sovereignty should not be compromised. I urge you to support this cause – stop BC Ferries from further contributing to the manipulation of our democratic system.
