The Issue

Hi, my name is Alexandra and I am an animal lover, rescuer, and activist. I am creating this petition because I am beyond disgusted to see sentient animals being used as props on FEAR FACTOR just to get views. No one would let this happen to cats or dogs; we should not accept it with any other kind of animals either, including rats, pigeons, reptiles, or any other for that matter. They feel pain, stress, fear, and they suffer too, no matter the species. Their inability to scream in pain does not mean they don't suffer.

THE NEW SEASON OF FEAR FACTOR (2026)

I alarmed by the recent reports indicating a continuation of animal use in the new season of Fear Factor 2026. Throughout the years, this reality TV show has been notorious for its controversial use of animals in challenges that put them at risk of harm, distress, or even death. Despite previous outcry by animal rights organizations and the public, Fear Factor remains unwavering in its practices.

According to a 2022 study by the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), over 70% of Americans believe that animals should be treated with the same respect and kindness typically reserved for more traditional pets such as cats and dogs.

This disregard for animal welfare on national television is both alarming and unacceptable. We must remind producers and network executives that empathy should extend to all creatures, regardless of species.

THE CRUELTY WITNESSED IN FEAR FACTOR'S EPISODES:

Fear Factor’s format involves using live animals in dangerous and stress-inducing scenarios. While this might thrill some viewers, it comes at the cost of the well-being of these animals. Insects and reptiles, although less understood commonly, possess nervous systems capable of feeling stress and pain. Subjecting them to conditions where they can be crushed, suffocated, or otherwise harmed is inhumane.

In the first episode aired, we can witness snakes landing on hard floor from 6' falls potentially causing fatal internal damage, geckos dropping their tails from stress and being thrown around, rats landing amongst snakes and being lift by their tails (a dangerous and painful method), pigeons being thrown in the mix too. And that is just a snippet of it all.

According to the Vancouver Humane Society, " further incidents of stressful and inhumane treatment of animals are depicted. Other episodes show further concerning treatment of animals, including a contestant in a closed container with snakes and a dead rat in the contestant’s mouth."

The Vancouver Humane Society (VHS) has filed a cruelty complaint with the BC SPCA, and has written to various decision-makers, including the Canadian Broadcast Standards Council (CBSC); the show’s production company, Endemol Shine North America; and the show’s Canadian broadcaster, CTV.
The Vancouver Humane Society is calling on CTV to stop airing Fear Factor: House of Fear.

The CBSC wrote a statement claiming they won't take anymore complaints due to the numerous ones they already received. Yet the show is still airing.

WHAT NOW?

A potential solution to maintain the thrill of the show without involving live animals lies in employing high-quality special effects, computer-generated imagery (CGI), and simulations. These methods can replicate challenges without physical harm to any creatures, aligning with ethical entertainment standards.

We urge the producers of Fear Factor and the overseeing network to willingly step into modern times and remove live animal challenges from their shows. We demand accountability and compassion in media. Animal cruelty cannot be justified in the name of entertainment.

We demand that the next season of Fear Factor either reflects a commitment to innovative filming methods without live animals on set or for the show to be cancelled completely.

We refuse to accept anymore suffering of animals in the name of entertainment on FEAR FACTOR.

Join me and and all the other concerned and alarmed viewers, animal lovers and activists in making a REAL difference for those who can't scream in pain .

Sign this petition to end the archaic practice of using live animals of EVERY KIND in entertainment and help pave the way for an empathetic media landscape, STARTING WITH FEAR FACTOR NOW!
