The issue

Hi, I am Amali and I am 13 year old girl who believes that we can change the world so we can all live in harmony. I love animals with all my heart and hate to even think for a second that innocent animals are being tested for beauty products. How is an animal life worth risking for something that changes the way you look. 'No animal should suffer for your beauty'.

Leo’s story could have ended in tragedy. At a research facility in Sydney, he was just one of many cats subjected to gruesome tests aimed at improving human surgical techniques for vision correction. Fortunately, Leo's fate took a different turn when a compassionate researcher decided to save him, allowing a rescue group to provide him with a forever home instead of continuing his life in the lab.

However, before his rescue, Leo had already endured painful procedures. His nictitating membranes (third eyelids) were removed, and he underwent surgery to his right eye's corneal pocket. The facility where Leo was held eventually ran out of funding, but countless other animals in similar positions are not as lucky. They continue to suffer in silence, subjected to invasive and often unnecessary experiments.

Animal testing, particularly in studies related to human health improvements, raises numerous ethical and moral concerns. According to Humane Society International, it is not only cruel but also often ineffective, with over 90% of drugs tested on animals failing in human trials. Alternative methods, such as in vitro testing, computer modeling, and human volunteer studies, have been proven to be not only more ethical but more reliable and cost-effective.

We urge the Australian government and research institutions to reconsider the necessity of using animals in research. By redirecting funds towards these humane alternatives, we can ensure innovation continues without further suffering of sentient beings like Leo.

In the photo above this is a real photo of Leo now. He went through a terrible life. Then he went to a loving home filled with happiness and was no longer hiding in fear.

Leo's life was altered forever by the research he was subjected to - let's work to ensure others do not share his fate. We can change the world to live in a place not fear not inequality but where we can all live in peace. Sign this petition to help us end the outdated practice of animal testing and promote a future where research respects all living beings. Your voice counts! Let's be the voice for those who cannot speak for themselves.
