End Animal Testing to Ensure Safer Medications for Human Use

The Issue

This petition is personal to me because medical industry's reliance on animal testing can potentially harm people. Scientists often test medicines on animals, and if the results appear positive, the drugs then make their way to consumers who trust they are safe. Yet, this system can, and does, fail us. Animals, while similar to humans in many respects, are not identical. They are approximately 95% like us, and that remaining 5% can hide substance interactions or effects that scientists may miss during trials.

It is a well-documented fact that organisms react differently to substances, with many drugs that pass animal tests causing severe reactions in humans. It becomes imperative, then, to reassess the value and ethical considerations of these protocols. According to Cruelty Free International, 95% of drugs shown to be effective in animal tests fail in human trials (Source: Cruelty Free International, 2018). This demonstrates that animal testing is largely unreliable, exposing individuals to risks that may go unnoticed until it is too late.

We cannot compromise human health based on predictably unreliable data. Our aim is to convince the medical industry and regulatory authorities to move further away from dated animal testing practices and towards more accurate, humane, and safer testing methodologies. Your support in this matter is crucial. Please sign this petition to help us champion accuracy, safety, and compassion in medicine.
