The Issue

Animals deserve life. From the smallest frog to the largest pig, each creature has its own place in the world, a right to live free from unnecessary harm. Too often in educational institutions, animals are subjected to dissection, a practice that not only ends lives but also desensitizes students to the sanctity of life.

Studies show that nearly six million animals are dissected in schools across the United States every year. Commonly used animals include frogs, fish, sharks, pigs, cats, and dogs—most of which are sourced from breeding facilities, fur farms, and slaughterhouses. This practice contributes to the cycle of animal cruelty and sends the wrong message to students about the value of life.

Alternatives to animal dissection have proven to be as effective, if not more so, in achieving educational goals. Digital dissection software, 3D models, and virtual simulations serve as excellent substitutes that provide an interactive learning experience while sparing animal lives. Schools already utilizing these alternatives have seen student engagement rise and learning outcomes improve.

Furthermore, numerous studies have documented that students who utilize non-animal teaching methods perform on par with or better than those who use animal dissection. Embracing technology not only advances education but aligns with modern ethical standards and fosters compassion.

Educational institutions play a pivotal role in shaping the values of future generations. By eliminating animal dissection, we can teach students that compassion and respect for life are integral parts of scientific learning. Encourage educational authorities and policymakers to replace animal dissection with humane, modern teaching methods.

Sign this petition to urge schools to end animal dissection and embrace more humane and innovative educational tools. It's time to foster a learning environment that respects all living creatures and equips our students with the empathy and knowledge to build a compassionate future.
