End Animal Cruelty in Washington D.C.!

The Issue

We are Sophie and Madeleine, two 7th graders who go to Sojourner Truth Montessori, a public charter school in Washington DC. We love animals and have always wanted a pet. We think it is important to treat all animals well because they have feelings just like humans.

Animal cruelty consists of anything from abandonment, neglect, physical abuse, a refusal to provide animals with basic necessities, dogfighting, abuse, and hoarding. Animals can’t speak up for themselves so it is important that we do it for them. You can help by donating to places such as the Human Rescue Alliance and The Wounded Paw Project.

This issue is a big deal everywhere around the world, but we want to focus on trying our best to make a change in our community. We really think that it is important to advocate for animals since they can't speak for themselves. The main goal of this petition is to raise awareness about animal mistreatment so that people face punishment for their actions. It is wrong to treat any living thing like this, especially when they are so vulnerable. Sign this petition now to help put a stop to this cruelty.

Below is our data that shows the community live outcomes each year and non-live outcomes each year of animals in the US from 2016 to 2024. This highlights how despite progress, animal cruelty is a significant concern that is dangering and killing many animals.

Animal cruelty is a very crucial issue for people in DC because it can result in both physical and psychological harm to animals and those who participate in these practices can face legal penalties, which can increase the overall crime rate in DC. We encourage you to learn more about this topic and sign our petition to help create change! Animals can't speak, so we have to speak for them. It is not right to sit back and let animal cruelty happen when we can make a change. Animals are living beings that are capable of emotions, both negative and positive, just like humans. It is morally wrong to treat them this way, and that is why we have to put a stop to this now!

Protect them today so that they can be free tomorrow!
