As an animal lover and passionate advocate for animal welfare, it deeply saddens me to witness the cruelty and suffering endured by countless animals across Trinidad and Tobago. These innocent beings—who offer us unconditional love, joy, and companionship—are far too often subjected to abuse, neglect, abandonment, and unnecessary death.
A particularly heartbreaking reality is the routine euthanizing of animals in dog pounds after just seven days. Many of these animals are healthy, adoptable, and simply in need of a second chance. Instead, they are denied the opportunity to find loving homes due to outdated policies and lack of resources.
Adding to this crisis are the recent and disturbing incidents of mass dog poisonings in several communities across Trinidad. These acts of cruelty reflect a growing disregard for animal life and highlight the urgent need for public awareness, compassion, and community action.
Despite limited resources, many animal activists and rescuers across the country dedicate their time, money, and energy every day to care for these animals. They feed stray dogs and cats, seek out medical treatment for the injured and sick, and even risk their own safety to rescue animals dumped or born into homelessness. Their efforts are heroic—but they cannot do it alone.
This petition seeks to raise awareness about the ongoing plight of animals and to advocate for more humane and supportive systems. We are calling for:
· An end to the automatic euthanizing of animals in dog pounds after 7 days.
· Lowered or waived adoption fees for rescuers and members of the public willing to provide loving homes.
· Increased support and recognition for the tireless work of animal rescuers and volunteers.
· Public education campaigns promoting responsible pet ownership and reporting of animal cruelty.
By informing and empowering the public, we can foster a culture of empathy and responsibility. Every animal deserves a chance to live without fear, to be cared for, and to feel safe.
Please sign and share this petition to help raise awareness and promote a more compassionate future for animals in Trinidad and Tobago. Together, we can be the voice they so desperately need.
