I am a resident of Taguig, Metro Manila, and every day I witness heartbreaking scenes of animal cruelty. Countless animals suffer at the hands of negligent owners who abandon them when they're hurt or no longer convenient to care for. This is not just an issue close to my heart; it's a widespread problem that needs urgent attention.

In the Philippines, it's estimated that there are millions of stray dogs and cats alone (Philippine Animal Welfare Society). These numbers don't even account for other animals like birds, reptiles and small mammals that are also victims of neglect or abuse. The sad reality is many of these creatures die due to lack of proper care.

The Philippine Animal Welfare Act (RA 8485) exists but its enforcement needs strengthening especially in local areas like ours. We need stricter regulations on pet ownership and harsher penalties for those who violate animal rights.

Let us urge our local government in Taguig City to take stronger actions against animal cruelty. Let's call for better implementation of existing laws and push for educational programs about responsible pet ownership.

We can no longer stand by while innocent creatures suffer needlessly because they were unfortunate enough to end up with irresponsible owners.
