We are calling for immediate action to stop the inhumane treatment of cats in shelters across Cavite, Philippines. Disturbing incidents have been reported where cats, due to extreme hunger, have resorted to eating deceased cage mates. This is a clear violation of animal rights and an indication of gross negligence on the part of those responsible for their care. Animals, like humans, deserve respect and a life free from suffering. The situation is particularly alarming considering that there are approximately 1 million stray animals in NCR alone (source: PETA Asia). We urge local authorities and animal welfare organizations to investigate these shelters and enforce stricter regulations for animal care standards. If individuals or institutions cannot provide adequate care for these animals, they should not be allowed to keep them caged and deprived of their basic needs.
