Dear petitioners

I have been a vocal advocate for ending live animal exports since before I was elected some 16 years ago. I was thrilled that the Government has committed to ending live sheep exports. However, this will not stop the cruelty this trade inflicts on other animals.

While the live export trade of sheep will cease in 2028, hundreds of thousands of other animals, such as cattle, buffalo or goats, will continue to endure the horrors of this trade with no end in sight.

This is why I am proud to announce that I will table Lisa Margetts’s
Change.org
petition on 17 September 2026 in the Federal Parliament to end all live animal exports.

Lisa has done commendable work over many years, amassing more than 460,000 signatures. My understanding is that it is one of the largest petitions
Change.org
has ever seen.

To everyone who has signed this petition – thank you. Grass roots advocacy is vital to our democracy. The live sheep export trade was banned following many years of advocacy from people like you.

For my part, I will continue to push the Government to end live animal exports of any kind and take every opportunity to speak about this important issue.

Yours sincerely
