End Aalborg Zoo's live pet donations

End Aalborg Zoo's live pet donations
The Issue
My heart breaks every time I think of anyone donating a beloved guinea pig, rabbit or chicken to become food for predators at Aalborg Zoo. I have several guinea pigs that are beautiful, smart, interactive pets, and each one is a unique being with a soul. Animals are helpless creatures who deserve love and nurture, not a terrifying end as prey.
Aalborg Zoo's practice of asking the public for donations of live pets to feed their animals is not justifiable. This policy devalues the lives of small pets and puts them in a position where they are treated as mere commodities. These pets, often seen as part of a family, are sent to a terrifying fate, sacrificing their lives under the facade of sustaining the natural food chain.
While it is understood that zoos need to feed their predators, there are numerous ways to source food ethically and responsibly that do not involve accepting household pets as donations. Alternatives include sourcing deceased animals humanely or working with meat suppliers to ensure the predators are fed appropriately.
These precious creatures, right from guinea pigs to rabbits to mice, form bonds with humans and provide companionship. They are loved family members and should not be viewed as dispensable objects ready to fulfill a momentary need.
I urge Aalborg Zoo in Denmark to immediately halt this call for pet donations to feed predators. By signing this petition, we can compel them to adopt alternative measures and ensure every small pet is valued for the life and joy they bring, not as a means to an end in the food chain. Sign and support a kinder approach to feeding zoo predators.
