Reflecting on Key Anniversaries & Pursuing Justice for Communities Affected by War on Drugs

Dear Valued Supporters,
This year, as we continue our relentless pursuit to end over half a century of injustice and seek compensation for communities tragically impacted by the War on Drugs, we are brought to reflect upon significant milestones in the realm of human rights. The 75th Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the 30th Anniversary of the Vienna Declaration and Program of Action, and the 25th Anniversary of the UN Declaration on Human Rights Defenders remind us of our collective responsibility to protect and uphold the inherent dignity of every individual.
Yet, it is with a heavy heart that we note the challenges that still loom large. Notwithstanding the profound impact of these Declarations, certain state behaviors persistently erode their foundational principles. The inconsistent application of human rights obligations, disparate international reactions to severe human rights breaches, and an alarming shortfall in funding for essential human rights mechanisms are a testament to the work that remains.
In the shadow of these formidable challenges, our cause becomes even more critical.
Our Call to Action:
Reaffirm Human Rights Commitments: On these monumental anniversaries, it is paramount that states revisit and recommit to the principles underpinning these Declarations. We must remember that every individual affected by the War on Drugs has rights enshrined in these landmark documents.
Bolster the Human Rights Framework: A call for states to enhance their financial contributions to the human rights pillar of the UN is not just a request; it's a necessity. Adequate resources are indispensable to uphold and promote human rights effectively.
Consistent and Comprehensive Implementation: The selective adherence to human rights obligations is unacceptable. States need to ensure a comprehensive and unwavering enforcement of their international human rights commitments.
Strengthen International Mechanisms: A unified and efficient international mechanism is essential to address human rights violations universally, ensuring justice for all, including people who use drugs those suffering from & affected by the War on Drugs.
As we mark these significant anniversaries, let us channel the spirit of unity, justice, and determination they signify. Together, let's amplify our call to end the longstanding injustice faced by communities devastated by the War on Drugs. Your voice, your support, and your advocacy are invaluable in this journey towards justice.
With deep appreciation and unwavering resolve,
