Update on the 50-Year-Old FAILED War on Drugs Petition:

Dear Comrades,
Despite the heavy rain, on the evening of 14th July 2023, a significant event was held in Kathmandu's historic Freak Street organized by our petition campaign, a "Candle-light Vigil" took place to commemorate the 50-year-long FAILED War on Drugs, spanning from 15th July 1973 to 15th July 2023. The vigil aimed to honor the countless lives affected by this failed approach and to raise awareness about the urgent need for a new approach to drug policy.
The following day, on 15th July 2023, which marked the exact 50th anniversary of the War on Drugs, a Global Day of Action, under the theme "End 50 Years of Injustice & Compensate" was organized. This initiative aims to shed light on the disproportionate impact of the war on drugs and holds the United States government and the United Nations accountable for the consequences of this failed policy. The demonstration also sought to bring attention to the ongoing negative consequences of the war and to call for a reevaluation of global drug policies.
Together, these events served as a collective voice urging the United States government, the United Nations & the International Community to prioritize evidence-based strategies that focus on public health, harm reduction, cannabis legalization and addressing the root causes of drug use. Our hope is that these efforts will encourage meaningful dialogue and positive action toward finding effective and humane alternatives to the failed War on Drugs.
