Rapid water quality testing has showed unsafe levels of E-Coli and Coliforms in the River Almond adjacent and downstream of Blackburn Sewage Works.
Tonight, as of 9pm, East Calder Wastewater Treatment Works (WwTW) is again discharging largely untreated sewage into the River Almond.
Therefore, The River Almond Action Group (RAAG) are advising the community to avoid themselves or their dogs to swim in the river for the foreseeable. We hope that SEPA will follow up further with information for when it safe for us to use the river again.
You can keep up to date here: https://www.facebook.com/RiverAlmondActionGroup
Please continue to back the #stopthesewage campaign and #cleanriverpledge by contacting your local MSPs and reporting pollution incidents directly to SEPA here: https://www2.sepa.org.uk/environmentalevents
Thanks again,
RAAG
