Encourage the Grammy's to create a Christmas Album category
The Issue
For so many artists, the creation of Christmas albums represents both a heartfelt tribute to the season and an opportunity to contribute to a beloved musical tradition. However, despite their popularity and cultural impact, these festive albums often go unrecognized in major award categories. With more than 80 Christmas releases have been nominated for Grammys, including Charles Schulz's classic, "A Charlie Brown Christmas"; the star-studded video for Band Aid's charity single "Do They Know It's Christmas"; India Arie and Stevie Wonder's a jazzy duet of "Christmas Song"; Michael Bublé's beloved "Christmas"; and Dolly Parton's third holiday LP, "A Holly Dolly Christmas. Spanning genres from children's music to bluegrass to gospel, the GRAMMY nominated holiday works have showcased the enduring appeal of festive recordings across generations and sounds. Since 2024 merely 8 projects have been fortunate enough to win any award. This clearly reflects an unfair disparity, as Christmas albums must compete in general categories, oftentimes overshadowed by non-holiday releases with broader appeal.
The seasonal nature of Christmas albums could lead to their being overlooked or grouped together in categories where their unique qualities do not shine through. In contrast, having a dedicated Grammy award for Best Christmas Album would foster a deeper appreciation and encourage artists to continue crafting these timeless festive works. It would further allow the distinguished music awards to acknowledge the influence and artistry of holiday albums separately, honoring the genre's contributions to the music industry.
A new category would mean a significant boost not only for the artists but also for listeners who cherish these seasonal releases which enrich their holiday traditions. With radio stations often side-lining these festive albums, a Grammy category would validate their place in the music industry and celebrate the uniqueness of Christmas music.
By supporting this petition, you are advocating for the recognition of Christmas albums, ensuring they receive the accolades they deserve. Let us come together to request the Grammy's to seriously consider the addition of a Best Christmas Album category. Join us in this effort to bring more sparkle to the festive season through well-deserved accolades.
Please Join-in by signing this petition to uplift your voice as we love to hear Christmas Music and the Artist & Groups who sing them!
