My name is Skylar Smtih and I am an Advanced Band member at Kopachuck Middle School. In past years, our school's administration has given Advanced and Jazz Band students the opportunity to visit local elementary schools to share their experiences and recruit incoming 5th graders into our program. Not only has this been an effective recruitment tool, but also a valuable leadership opportunity for us, the participating students.

Regrettably, this initiative has been absent for the 2024-2025 school year, denying us the chance to connect with prospective band members and share our love for music with others. 

It is crucial that we restore this initiative. Not only will it lead to enrichment of the Kopachuck Middle School band program, but it will also provide an opportunity for elementary school students to gain an insight into what they can look forward to as future middle school band members.

Music education has been shown to improve academic performance, with studies from the National Association for Music Education demonstrating that students who participate in school band programs tend to outperform their peers on standardized tests (Source: National Association for Music Education).

Let's Give our Advanced and Jazz Band members at Kopachuck Middle School their platform back. Let's help them share their passion, nurture young talents, and ensure the future of our thriving band programs.
