Why this petition matters

Started by Hala E

Jackson Reed High School, located in Washington D.C., has a diverse student body that deserves exposure to a wide range of perspectives and experiences. This includes the opportunity for students to learn about different cultures and world events, such as those happening in Palestine. The Arab Student Union at Jackson Reed has proposed screening a film about Palestine, specifically about how it relates to the US. This initiative would foster understanding and encourage informed discussions among students.

Unfortunately, the school administration has not allowed us permission to screen the documentary. Denying this opportunity limits the educational growth of our students and contradicts the principles of academic freedom.

According to a study by Stanford University, exposing students to diverse perspectives enhances their critical thinking skills, and UNESCO states that cultural education fosters mutual respect and reduces prejudice.

We urge the Jackson Reed High School administration to allow the screening of "The Occupation of the American Mind", followed by a discussion about the film. By doing so, they will promote an environment where all voices are heard and respected. Please sign this petition if you believe in fostering diversity and open dialogue within our schools.
