The Issue

Sexual abuse leaves deep scars that can take a lifetime to heal. Many who know me understand just how personal and crucial this subject is to me. I am ready to fight for survivors because it's a fight for justice and dignity.

In Iowa, victims of sexual abuse deserve protection, justice, and peace of mind. However, many survivors are forced to face their abusers again and again in a legal system that seems to prioritize procedure over their well-being. SF2379 is a critical piece of legislation designed to change this grim reality. It proposes granting victims of sexual abuse a lifetime civil no-contact order, thereby ensuring they are forever shielded from further trauma.

Imagine a young woman who has had the courage to seek justice, yet is repeatedly haunted by the prospect of facing her abuser in court. SF2379 will ensure such heroes can finally breathe easier knowing they have the law standing firmly by their side. This law will provide survivors with a desperately needed sense of security, allowing them to start truly healing and reclaiming their lives.

Moreover, it is imperative that all hearings related to these matters are postponed until after July 1st, the date when SF2379 is expected to come into effect upon passing. This postponement is crucial to ensure that victims immediately benefit from the protection offered by the law, rather than being forced prematurely into traumatic confrontations.

We have the opportunity to do something monumental. By implementing SF2379, Iowa can become a beacon of hope, setting a precedent that prioritizes the safety and dignity of survivors over procedural technicalities. It's time for the lawmakers of Iowa to show courage, empathy, and leadership by passing SF2379 into law.

Join me in urging Iowa lawmakers to pass SF2379. Sign this petition and help us make history for the protection of sexual abuse survivors. Together, we can create a safer and more just society.
