We the Current and Future Scholars, Families, Parents, and Community Supporters of John Adams Academy El Dorado Hills, in order to Create a more perfect academic setting, Complete our campus with critically needed classroom space, reading rooms, science labs, playgrounds and athletic fields, Provide for the intellectual growth of the next generation through the expansion of the John Adams Academy American Classical Leadership Education® model, and Promote the restoration of America’s Heritage by developing servant-leaders who are keepers and defenders of the principles of freedom for which our Founding Fathers pledged their lives, fortunes, and sacred honor, do Ordain and encourage the El Dorado County Board of Education to approve the material revision to John Adams Academy El Dorado Hill’s Charter.

Details on Expansion Plans:

  • As many of you may already be aware, plans are underway to expand the size of our El Dorado Hills campus for the upcoming 2022-23 school year.  These plans include purchasing an adjoining 78,000 square foot building at the same site that our current building is located, as well as the addition of an outdoor sports field and recreation area for use by both elementary and secondary scholars.
  • The new building will house our elementary school program (TK – 6th grade) and will include a performing arts auditorium, classrooms devoted to drama, music and art, a library and reading room, expanded lunchroom, and over 30 additional classrooms.
  • The current John Adams Academy-El Dorado Hills building will be converted for exclusive use by the secondary program (7th – 12th grade), and once refurbished will include improvements such as new science labs, reading rooms, and high school seminar rooms.
  • It is anticipated that the additional space will enable John Adams Academy-El Dorado Hills to increase its overall enrollment to approximately 1,700 scholars by 2026-27 (the current enrollment is approximately 900 scholars).  We currently have over 1,000 scholars on our waitlist, and this phased expansion will help us meet the demand in our community for our unique American Classical Leadership Education® model.
  • Attached (here) are the preliminary plans for the new primary school building on our EDH campus.

Role of the El Dorado County Board of Education in our Expansion Plans:

  • In order for our expansion plans to go forward, the El Dorado County Board of Education (EDCOE Board), the charter authorizer for John Adams Academy-El Dorado Hills, needs to approve a material revision to the school’s charter.  Last month, John Adams Academy presented our expansion plans to the EDCOE Board at a public hearing on the material revision.  After we completed our presentation, several representatives from education-related labor unions and a representative from a local school district voiced their opposition to our expansion plans claiming that a larger Academy would have an adverse fiscal impact on them because of already declining enrollment at their district schools.  They argued our material revision should be denied for that reason.  At the conclusion of the public hearing, the Board announced they needed to gather additional data and would be taking the matter under advisement.  A final decision is anticipated on April 5, 2022.
  • It is important the EDCOE Board members have the opportunity to hear from all of the stakeholders (and not just the labor unions).  To that end, we are reaching out to you – our current and future Scholars, Families, Parents, and Community Supporters – to let you know that you may also raise your voices and express your opinion to the Board about the expansion of our campus. You can do this by signing this petition, the results of which will be provided to the EDCOE Board before their April 5th Board Meeting to decide on the material revision to our charter.
