Encourage Broken Lizard Team to Finally Produce PotFest Movie
The Issue
Like many viewers, I was captivated by the tantalizing premise teased at the end of the Broken Lizard's comedy Beerfest in 2005. We were all promised a follow up movie titled PotFest. Nearly two decades have passed, and this promise remains unfulfilled, much to the disappointment of comedy fans across the globe.
For me, this issue is personal. I, along with countless other film enthusiasts, have endured the long wait and held out hope for the movie. We've aged alongside Broken Lizard team members, and enduring cultural icons like Willie Nelson, a legend who, quite feasibly, might not be with us when the film finally sees the light of day.
I hate to think that Nelson, who appeared as himself in Beerfest and could potentially star in PotFest, will not have the chance to participate in this anticipated sequel. Broken Lizard has a loyal fan base that has remained dedicated since their early days and they should honor the commitment made many years ago.
Unfortunately, there's another sobering factor to consider. Comedy films produced in Hollywood have been on a decline over the past two decades. According to the Motion Picture Association's annual THEME report, comedy made up just 11% of the film market in 2019, compared to 20% in 2000 (source: Los Angeles Times). A movie like PotFest could uplift the genre and revitalize interest in well-crafted film comedy.
Given these circumstances, we must urge the Broken Lizard Team to fulfill their promise and bring PotFest to life. Let's celebrate the legends while they are still with us, and revive the comedy film genre in the process. Sign the petition to show your support for the production of PotFest.
