A small step towards aircraft accessibility but a step none the less.
Following is a statement from Boeing Co CEO David Calhoun in response to our petition asking Boeing to “ to include as quickly as possible and as standard, full accessibility features on all future manufactured and refurbished commercial aircraft”.
His statement reads - “Boeing has a long history of being at the forefront of innovations in aviation to meet the needs of our customers and their passengers. We have an ongoing commitment to explore a variety of interiors concepts to create a more accessible flight experience.”
The needs David talks about have not to date been accessibility - they have created more luxury features such as on-board showers etc, aimed at the fully abled traveler, but we do take some comfort in his commitment to explore access concepts.
The petition will continue to show Boeing and Airbus that there is a real need and an urgency for accessibility and that Boeing and Airbus should introduce this before being required to do so through legislation. Also to show we will not be silenced in our call for accessibility.
