Enact tougher laws on animal abuse
The Issue
This is Iris. Iris was an innocent soul who was in the hands of pure evil. Iris was pregnant and we are going off a tip that she might have had 10 babies. She was butchered in an abandoned building in the city of Chicago. A group of individuals decided to perform a C Section on Iris without a veterinary license or medical degree, to cut her open and take her babies. They used REGULAR THREAD to suture her. Not sterile sutures. We know that a new nursing mom was brought in and when Iris’s puppies took to the new mom, they left Iris there to die.
There is still a lot we don’t know but what we have seen and the information we have, will haunt us forever. Players for Pits, NFP stepped up and pulled her into their rescue and we were searching for someone to foster her. As posted by them :
When Iris was brought into emergency, she was emaciated. The doctors described her as “skeletal”. Her temp was 103.2 degrees. Her heart rate was extremely elevated and the hack job of the sutures on her abdomen was open and exposed. Iris was laterally recumbent. She couldn’t hold herself up or walk. Iris was suffering but kept fighting.
They started doing bloodwork, x-rays, abdominal ultrasound and fluid sample testing. She underwent surgery and was in critical condition.
She needed blood transfusions to keep her alive under anesthesia and needed oxygen as she was waking up.
Less than 24 hours later, Iris took her last breath. Iris was too weak to reposition herself and part of her care involved gently rotating her to prevent further complications. As they were turning her, her blood pressure and heart rate began to spike and she began seizing. It started as a focal seizure and quickly worsened. Iris had a full blown, heart stopping seizure and flat lined.
They managed to bring her back briefly, but she could no longer breathe on her own. That’s when they made the decision to let her go.
She needed real medical intervention, not the kind of “care” these monsters performed on her.
Iris died because people failed her. The ones who bred her, used her, and performed unfathomable pain with no anesthesia or pain meds and discarded her when her little body couldn’t do it anymore.
Iris deserved so much more than the life she was given. She should have known love and safety and happiness. Instead, she became a symbol of how broken the system is.
Iris’s pain and suffering will not be in vain. We are her voice now. We demand change in our laws against animal abuse/torture. We need stronger federal legislation against animal abuse. We also NEED to establish a national animal abuse registry.
Mandate animal cruelty prevention training for law enforcement and judicial officials and provide funding to these investigations and rescues.
We want there to be Iris’s Law.
While there have been steps forward in federal animal protection laws, the current legal framework remains broken against punishing offenders effectively.
Animal abuse and torture are heinous acts that unfortunately continue to plague our society. Each year, countless animals fall victim to neglect, cruelty, and violence with minimal legal consequences for perpetrators. According to the Humane Society of the United States, nearly a million animals are abused or killed every year, yet many such cases go unreported or unresolved due to inadequate legal frameworks.
Existing penalties for animal abusers are often insufficient, acting neither as a deterrent to perpetrators nor as justice for victims. A staggering amount of research, such as the FBI's acknowledgment of the correlation between animal cruelty and other forms of violence, underlines the urgent need for stringent measures. Strengthening laws around animal cruelty will not only protect vulnerable animals but also enhance community safety by addressing potential precursors to more severe crimes.
Therefore, it is imperative to introduce tougher laws that impose harsher sentences on those found guilty of animal abuse or torture. Lawmakers should ensure comprehensive legal reforms that mandate rigorous investigations and severe penalties, including significant fines and mandatory prison sentences, for offenders. Increasing public awareness and education about animal welfare must also be a cornerstone of these new legislations.
By signing this petition, you are urging lawmakers to prioritize animal welfare and put an end to the horrific acts of cruelty animals endure. Stronger legal protections are not just a moral imperative but a necessary step toward a more humane and just society for all living beings. Please join us in calling for immediate action to fortify laws against animal abuse. Sign the petition to be a voice for the voiceless and help enact meaningful change.
