Enact Rockie's Law to Protect Pets from Veterinary Negligence

The Issue

Our pets are not property. They are our FAMILY.

Rockie’s Story

Imagine taking your happy, healthy dog to the veterinarian you trusted with his life—the same clinic you believed would protect him, care for him, and treat him with honesty and compassion. You walk in expecting reassurance. Instead, you walk out carrying a heartbreak that can never be undone.

That was Rockie’s story.

At Mohnacky Animal Hospital, under the care of Dr. George (Dr. Djordjevich), one decision and one surgery changed Rockie’s life forever. A single act of what we believe to be negligence stole his chance at a normal life and left permanent damage that cannot be undone—not just to his body, but to the family who loves him.

Rockie is not “just a dog.”

He is a Marine’s emotional support animal.
He is the one who waits at the door every day, tail wagging, no matter how long or hard the day has been.
He is the one who curls up beside the kids at night, sensing sadness before a word is spoken.
He is the steady presence, the comfort, the unconditional love that turns our house into a home.

Rockie is family.

And yet, under California law, Rockie’s life is valued no differently than a broken chair or a scratched car. He is labeled property. Our grief is minimized. Our pain is dismissed. Our loss is treated as if it happened to an object—not a living, feeling soul who trusted a veterinarian and a hospital with his life.

Every person who has ever loved a pet knows the truth:
They are not property.
They are our best friends.
They are our protectors.
They are our comfort when the world feels unbearable.

Rockie’s story could be anyone’s story.
It could be your dog.
Your cat.
Your child’s best friend.

And that is why this fight matters.

This is bigger than Rockie. This is about accountability. This is about transparency. This is about demanding better from veterinary professionals and facilities like Mohnacky Animal Hospital, and from doctors like Dr. George (Dr. Djordjevich), so that no other family has to endure this kind of loss.

For Rockie.
For your pet.
For every animal who has suffered at the hands of negligent care.

We need change—and we need it now.

Please sign this petition. Share Rockie’s story. Help us stand up to Dr. George (Dr. Djordjevich) and Mohnacky Animal Hospital, demand accountability, and fight for laws that finally recognize what we already know to be true:

Our pets are family—and their lives matter.
