Every day, children across the globe are being exploited online by their own families for financial gain and fame, often without any form of physical, emotional or financial protection. In this age of social media, this is now becoming a global concern that needs immediate attention. 

According to UNICEF, one in three internet users worldwide is a child, yet too little is done to protect them from the perils of the digital world (UNICEF). The Internet Watch Foundation reported over 100,000 URLs containing child sexual abuse imagery in 2019 alone (IWF Annual Report 2019), highlighting the urgent need for protective legislation.

We call upon our lawmakers to create comprehensive laws that shield children from such exploitation and abuse online. These laws should encompass strict regulations on how children can be portrayed on digital platforms, provide mechanisms for reporting suspected exploitation, and ensure severe penalties for those found guilty of such heinous acts.
