We adopted a one-year-old French Bulldog who is reactive to other dogs. When loose dogs approach her, she becomes aggressive, making our walks stressful and limiting her much-needed exercise. This personal experience has highlighted a broader issue that needs addressing for the well-being of all pets and their owners.

We are calling for legislation requiring all dogs to be kept on a leash at all times unless they are in private gated fields. This law will not only protect reactive or vulnerable dogs like ours but also ensure the safety of children, adults, and other animals who may encounter off-leash dogs.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), about 4.5 million people are bitten by dogs each year in the United States alone. Half of these victims are children aged 5-9 years old (CDC). A leash law would significantly reduce these incidents by preventing unexpected encounters with uncontrolled pets.
