The Issue

In memory of our beloved son Aiden, whose untimely struggles were deepened by the spread of videos shared, I am calling for the enactment of "Aiden's Law." Aiden's life was impacted by this, resulting in mental health issues and subsequent challenges in securing employment. This petition is not just about seeking justice for our son, but about preventing similar tragedies for countless others.

We live in an age where a simple video clip can be shared rapidly across platforms like YouTube and other social media channels, often gaining significant viewership and profits without the subject's consent. Such unauthorized distribution can lead to devastating personal consequences, as it did for Aiden and many others. These videos, once shared, become part of the digital fabric of our lives and can cause lasting harm to the individuals and to their families.

Aiden's Law aims to put a stop to this by ensuring that no one profits from or shares videos recorded under the "open recorded law" without explicit consent from those captured in the video. This proposed law would require platforms to remove such videos immediately upon request. Furthermore, it would penalize those who exploit personal videos for commercial gain without proper authorization.

Statistics reveal that online invasions of privacy are becoming increasingly common, with many victims suffering silently. The repercussions include severe distress, mental health challenges, and damage to personal and professional reputations.

Implementing Aiden's Law would not only give voice to those affected but would also deter future violations by establishing a legal framework that ensures the digital sphere remains an ethical and respectful environment. It would compel social media platforms to act responsibly and prioritize the well-being of individuals over profit.

Our society cannot stand by as digital privacy continues to be exploited. We owe it to victims like Aiden to create a safer online environment. Sign this petition to support the creation and enforcement of Aiden's Law, to honor our son's legacy, and to prevent such tragedies from occurring again.

Thank you for your support!!!
