The Issue

Our beloved family dog met with tragedy at a local boarding facility Paws N Claws in Waupaca, WI. Left in what we presumed was a safe environment, our dog was attacked and sadly succumbed to its injuries. The loss has left an indelible mark on our hearts and compels us to seek action so that no other pet owner in our community has to endure the same heartache.

Currently, there is a disturbing lack of oversight and accountability when it comes to boarding facilities and kennels in Wisconsin. When a pet dies under their care, there are no concrete laws holding them responsible. This gap in the legal framework puts beloved pets at risk and leaves their owners without recourse. According to the American Pet Products Association, 67% of U.S. homes own a pet, making the safety and protection of our furry family members a priority for millions.

We can change this by advocating for specific legislation that mandates boarding facilities and kennels to adhere to stringent safety and care standards. Such laws should include comprehensive background checks on staff, mandatory regular health and safety inspections, and clear protocols for handling emergencies. Moreover, facilities should be held accountable with severe penalties should negligence lead to the harm or death of an animal.

By implementing these measures, we can ensure a safer environment for our pets while they're away from home, and bring peace of mind to thousands of pet owners in Waupaca and beyond.

Sign this petition to urge our local legislators to take action and protect our pets by enacting accountability laws for boarding facilities in Wisconsin. Your signature can make a difference in making our community a safer place for all pets.
