Enact a Law to Prevent Dog Walking in Extreme Heat.

Enact a Law to Prevent Dog Walking in Extreme Heat.
The Issue
Seeing people walk their dogs in extreme heat and clearly seeing the dog suffering is, frankly, heart breaking. Even with all the knowledge and advice concerning the weather and the impacts on dogs, some individuals continue to walk their pets in conditions that are simply unsafe. Until a law is established to curb this irresponsible behaviour, many dogs will unfortunately suffer or even die due to heat exhaustion.
Dogs, unlike humans, cannot efficiently regulate their body temperature, making them extremely susceptible to heatstroke. Temperatures above 24°C, especially from 12 pm to 6 pm, during the hottest part of the day, pose significant risks to our furry companions. In numerous cases, veterinary professionals report an increase in cases of heatstroke amongst dogs during the summer months, leading to tragic and preventable outcomes.
A law preventing dog walking during these critical hours in high temperatures is not only reasonable but essential for the welfare of our pets. By implementing this regulation, we can ensure that dogs are not exposed to hazardous conditions, thus reducing unnecessary suffering and potential fatalities.
Responsible pet ownership should include recognizing environmental dangers. It’s crucial to bring about this change to safeguard our pets from harm caused by extreme heat. We urge the government to enact a law to prohibit walking dogs from 12 pm to 6 pm in temperatures exceeding 24°C.
Sign this petition to stand up for our loyal companions who depend on us to protect and care for them in ways they cannot. Let’s unite to make our communities safer for all pets, ensuring they are treated with the care and respect they deserve. Sign and help us make this critical change today.
