Enable Legal Emancipation for Minors in India

Enable Legal Emancipation for Minors in India
The Issue
I am a minor who aspires to be independent in India. I hold no resentment towards my parents, in fact, I cherish their love and support. However, I yearn for the freedom to enter contracts, form my own company, and handle my personal matters without the burden falling on my parents.
Currently, India's laws around child rights and protection do not include provisions for legal emancipation - a legal process that grants minors with the same privileges and responsibilities as an adult. This lack of facility hinders minors like me who are ready and capable of accepting full legal responsibilities associated with adulthood.
In the US, an approximate 5,000 minors successfully gain emancipation each year (Youth Emancipation Statistics, US Census Bureau, 2021). Those emancipated minors prosper, using their newfound independence as a platform to build their careers and contribute significantly to society.
Therefore, this petition pleads with the Government of India to establish a system for legal emancipation. This will offer eager and capable minors the right to independence, allowing us to enter contracts, form companies, and manage legal affairs without parental interference.
I'm not asking to strip the love and support from parents or guardians; rather, to recognize the potential in many young Indians like myself. We are ready to embrace responsibility, contribute to society, and build a more diverse, dynamic future for our nation. Sign this petition to stand with us. Give us the chance to demonstrate our capabilities, to shape our own paths, and to make India proud.
