Empower Teamwork: Add Collaboration Features to ChatGPT
The Issue
Subject: Petition for Flexible Chat Sharing & Collaboration Features in ChatGPT
To the OpenAI Product and Dev Teams,
We, the undersigned creators, collaborators, and professionals, are writing to request the introduction of flexible chat sharing and collaboration features within ChatGPT.
As working writers, editors, educators, developers, and thinkers, we often use ChatGPT as a creative partner. But right now, when attempting to share our conversations with ghostwriters, collaborators, reviewers, or clients, we're forced to rely on copy-pasting text or screenshots. These workarounds are cumbersome, lose context, and undercut the seamless, intuitive experience ChatGPT is already revolutionizing the creative world with.
In an era where collaborative tools are expected to be fast, fluid, and deeply integrated, we feel ChatGPT is uniquely positioned to lead with a smarter, more elegant approach to shared conversations.
Our primary request:
A read-only chat sharing feature (e.g., a generated link or exportable transcript) that allows users to share conversations without compromising privacy or account control.
And looking ahead, we see enormous value in enabling:
Fork & Continue: Let others clone a conversation and explore a new direction, preserving full history.
Live Collaboration: Enable multiple users to interact in a single chat in real time.
Commenting/Review Mode: Allow peers or clients to leave feedback within a shared thread.
Role-Based Permissions: Let the original user choose who can view, comment, or edit.
Context Transfer: Export or import a full chat with metadata for seamless handoff across teams.
Public or Community Sharing Mode: Open optional chats for broader peer review or discussion.
These features would benefit a wide spectrum of users, from screenwriters to students, educators to game designers. More importantly, they align with OpenAI’s core mission: to make powerful tools accessible, usable, and valuable to everyone.
We fully support putting user privacy, transparency, and control at the center of these features. The ability to opt in, restrict visibility, and manage permissions should be foundational.
This is an opportunity for ChatGPT to improve creative workflow, but more importantly, to reimagine what collaboration with AI can look like.
Thank you for your time, your innovation, and your continued commitment to making ChatGPT a meaningful, human-centered tool.
Sincerely,
The Undersigned
