Empower police to stop masked bikers in Stockport

Empower police to stop masked bikers in Stockport

The Issue

Incident in Heald Green SK8

Last night, just before 7pm, my twelve-year-old daughter was left alone at home for a mere ten minutes, when two males on dirt bikes, their faces obscured by balaclavas, invaded our front garden. They brazenly performed wheelies, tearing up the grass and, more importantly, instilling fear in my young daughter. To my dismay, when I reported the incident to the police, I was informed there's little they can do. Apparently, their hands are tied. Current protocols discourage officers from engaging with helmetless riders due to the risks involved.

In Stockport and beyond, families deserve to feel safe and secure in their own homes and neighborhoods. The sight of bikers causing chaos, unchecked and without fear of reprisal, is disturbing and unacceptable. The police need the authority and means to act decisively against such behavior. Empowering them to stop and question individuals wearing balaclavas on bikes without helmets isn't just a necessary step, it's common sense.

The safety of our children and our community at large must take precedence. The current inability of law enforcement to intervene due to operational constraints allows for this reckless behavior to persist. With the right powers, the police can effectively deter such incidents and restore peace of mind to the residents of Stockport.

I urge the local authorities to review and amend existing policies, providing our police force with clear guidelines and authority to stop and question these riders. By imposing consequences, we can discourage this unacceptable behavior and protect our communities from potential harm. Let us come together to support this change for a safer Stockport.

Please sign this petition to urge local authorities to empower our police to stop these reckless individuals and keep our neighborhoods safe.
