Nguyen Huynh lanzó esta petición dirigida para Emily Dilger (Chief Education Officer of Ignited Education)

I am currently pursuing a teacher fellowship with Ignited Education, a Bay Area Non-Profit, who offer multiple fellowships with STEM organizations in the Bay Area. One of the partnerships that Ignited Education has continued to partner with for the last 35 years is Lockheed Martin. As part of the Ignited Education mission, they say they want to “Help companies, foundations and individual donors support under-served schools in unique and meaningful ways”

Is it meaningful for students if their teachers and non-profit organizations that want to support students will partner with companies like Lockheed Martin who are still supporting Trump's racist policies and whose military supplies are also used to militarize the police that harm Black communities?

Lockheed Martin is heavily involved with the militarization of our police system who has been killing Black People in our nation. Through the 1033 surplus program, Lockheed Martin is also then involved with providing weapons to our school police that often work with Black kids as well. ( https://thehill.com/opinion/civil-rights/501565-ending-police-brutality-at-home-means-challenging-us-foreign-policy )

Lockheed Martin has a current partnership with the Trump Administration. ( https://www.washingtonpost.com/business/2019/07/23/with-recent-presidential-stopovers-defense-industry-job-creation becomes-political-prop /).

Additionally, it seems that Lockheed Martin benefits from this relationship with the Trump Administration greatly in terms of stocks. ( https://www.reuters.com/article/us-lockheed-results/trumps-policies-lift-lockheed-martins-profit shares-surge-idUSKCN1RZ16Q).

Lockheed Martin has a history of donating to the Trump Administration, such as $ 1 million for inauguration in 2017 ( https://www.bizjournals.com/baltimore/news/2017/04/20/lockheed-martin-among md-businesses -individuals-to.html).

I had a conversation with the CEO and she told me and a colleague that they will continue their partnership despite Lockheed's activities. Other entities, such as the University of Maryland have been asked to cut ties with Lockheed Martin because of their involvement in the Yemen Crisis.

From the article about Lockheed's involvement in the Yemen Crisis, ”... the principle of non-cooperation with evil, a notion central to the philosophies of Martin Luther King Jr. and Gandhi, who famously said that“ non-cooperation with evil is as much a duty as cooperation with good.

A whole body of social science research suggests that non-cooperation is extremely hard. That doesn't make it any less mandatory. If this university is to take its non-cooperation duty seriously, it must sever all ties with companies contributing to the carnage in Yemen. ”( Https://dbknews.com/2018/09/13/yemen-war-umd-defense-contractors/ ).

Please sign this petition and urge Ignited Education to cut their ties with Lockheed Martin.

In Solidarity,

Nguyen Huynh (He/Him)
