Guy Fieri isn't just a celebrity chef, a loving husband and father, and the mayor of Flavortown. He's an inspiration. That's why we– the students of Emerson College demand that Guy Fieri delivers the commencement speech for the class of 2016 and receives Emerson's first honorary degree in Comedy Writing and Performance.

You might be asking yourself, "Why Guy?" – to which we reply, "Why Not Guy?" Simply put, Guy Fieri represents everything that Emerson College stands for. 

• Excelling in Communication: On his television show Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives– Fieri truly innovates through communications and the arts. Through such clever "Fierisms" as "You're taking the gobble full throttle." and "I'm riding the bus to Flavortown." Fieri imbues genuine depth and culinary insight with a childlike innocence that appeals to all walks of life.
• Representation of ALL MAJORS: Unlike a number of previous commencement speakers who have only appealed to one facet of our diverse learning community. Fieri is a media mogul, New York Times bestselling author, a marketing master, humanitarian and ordained minister. He is truly a modern-day renaissance man.
• Genuine Comedic Stage Presence: I mean... have you seen him?

In conclusion, Emerson is such a vibrant and diverse learning community that we feel as though it is the only proper academic institution worthy of the designation of a "Flavortown." It's only fitting that Mr. Guy Fieri should christen the Class of 2016 and become an Emersonian Flavormaster himself.
