We, the Ethiopian diaspora, are thrilled by progress that Ethiopia has made under the leadership of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed.  We are impressed with the pace of positive change that the government is implementing. We would like to play our role in helping transform our country. Despite the changes, there is still a long way to go in democratizing our country. Also, sustainability of peace depends on equitable economic growth. The diaspora can make huge contribution towards these goals. 

One of the major challenges we face is the issue of dual citizenship. Hundreds of thousands of Ethiopians are forced to forfeit their Ethiopian nationality simply because of adopting other nationalities. We urge the Ethiopian government to amend its nationality law and allow for Ethiopians to retain their nationality even after they adopt other citizenship. This will enable the diaspora to be more active in participating in the country's economic and political activities!
