Being in the ocean is one of life’s great joys – but for millions of people
worldwide, there’s always that awful worry, ‘What if a shark appears?!’

• 70% of the Earth’s surface is ocean but many people ‘fear’ it as an alien
  space.
•  In 2025: 65 confirmed unprovoked shark bites worldwide, 9 fatalities — 25 in
  the US, 21 in Australia. (Florida Museum)

Going to outer space is extraordinary. But we need you back on Earth for this
one, Elon.

• THE CHALLENGE - Create effective personal shark-protection. Protect the
  person, not a board, tank or place. Help a person feel safe in the ocean, wherever they are
  or whatever they are doing.

Good science already exists; components exist. Research shows electric
deterrence can reduce bite probability 54% across white, bull and tiger sharks.
Visual/counter-illumination research is also promising.

What's missing is the systems engineering from first principles.

• If we protect the humans we protect sharks, whales, dolphins, turtles and all
  the other creatures that get caught in our marginally effective drum lines and
  nets.
