To honor David Bowie properly it would be fitting to set the official date that SpaceX is expected to land on Mars to be David Bowies birthday (Jan. 8) in whichever year the first astronauts land there.

This petition is for Elon Musk to set the date of arrival to that day. (Jan. 8)

The Earth will only be blessed with one David Bowie and with songs like Space Oddity, Starman, Life on Mars, Soggy Stardust etc.. it is only proper to honor this legend in the only way he truly deserves; by taking the first steps on Mars, and doing it on David Bowies birthday.

The day that we set to land on Mars can either be meaningless, or together as a group, we can help to pay homage to a man who was not only a rock legend, fashion icon, and inductee of the Science Fiction and Fantasy Hall of Fame, but also the man so cool that he turned down knighthood in 2003.
