Let The Dogs Stay on Premises.

The Issue

I am here today to ask everyone to help us. Today we had a meeting regarding two friendly, wellknown dogs that have been on the property for six years. They have been a great deterrent against vandalism and robbery. They are fenced in a spacious corral during business hours. Prior to the dogs arrival we’ve had multiple robberies, breakins, and many cases of vandalism since we are located in a commercial area, so it can become pretty dark at night. We have had a great success at keeping our property and community safer. Our neighbors are grateful and welcoming of the dogs.

We had spoken with proper authorities to oversee our legal rights and made sure that the dogs followed proper guidelines. This is a right that we have and it is being challenged by the Community Development Department of San Leandro. The Furniture store would be operating under what you would call a conditional permit. This allows the Members of the Development Department to decide on what we can and cannot do. Some businesses may or may not permit dogs depending on the members of the Development Department. Based off of a personal experience that they had recently, it has been brought up for discussion at their meeting if the dogs are to remain on premise or not. The condition is: If they stay, the permit to operate King Ho Furniture will be withheld. We will not be able to receive rent or operate without the permit which will entail other problems.

The condition to prevent the business from acquiring a permit just because a person dislikes dogs is unfair. These dogs are well cared for and maintained. They are not loose and running around. They are not Pittbulls or Rottweilers but they are papered and documented and have come from a solid breedline. They are trained and well cared for. We have no discrimination against any breed of dog and are animal friendly. They are not just dogs. They are family. Please help and sign this petition to allow the permits to be given and let the dogs reside in the only home that they know. Thank you for your time and understanding.
