Save our greenbelt field behind Danes Way - 90 houses proposed

Save our greenbelt field behind Danes Way - 90 houses proposed
The Issue
Elmbridge Borough Council has received plans for 90 residential units in the horse field behind Danes Way ( SA-14) - this high density housing development would transform the environment we all enjoy into an urban landscape on our doorstep.
To stop this from happening on this unspolit greenbelt field near our homes, we who have signed this petition want our concerns to be raised with Savills, who have proposed to build 90 homes there, and with Elmbridge Borough Council who are drafting a new Local Plan based on inaccurate evidence about this are known as SA-14.
Some of the reasons we believe strongly against developing this land (SA-14) include:
- The unspoilt, rural character of this large, open Green Belt land with a stunning horizon is a treasured source of pleasure, leisure and exercise for us all.
- The field has been and is used by many horses and enjoyed by local residents daily.
- The many trees on this land and the land’s boundaries help to manage our neighbourhood’s air quality and flood risk, and contribute to the biodiversity of the site and our gardens.
- The large developments will have a huge toll on local services including schools, doctors, rail and greater traffic congestion.
- As pasture land, it is well managed and a source of income to the horse owners who use it.
- It forms a natural boundary to the ancient woodland - Princes Coverts - in existence since King Henry VIII reign - now to be destroyed into 90 houses.
- There is no access to this site currently except an ancient footpath - so new roads will have to be built.
We call on Elmbridge Borough Council to correct the key factual errors about our Green Belt Sub-Area 14 in the published evidence reports from Ove Arup. The strong, unspoilt rural character of this stunning area must be duly recognised by correcting those errors. This stunning open landscape that defines the semi-rural character of our neighbourhood will then be preserved.
