Improve animal welfare in Elmbridge by stopping live animals being given as prizes
The Issue
Updates will be posted here: www.esherwalton.com/Conservatives-win-motion-to-improve-animal-welfare-across-Elmbridge
During a recent committee meeting, Cllr Paul Wood (Hersham Village) put forward a motion to address the problem, raised by local residents and the RSPCA, of live animals being given as prizes. This was supported by Cllr John Cope (Walton South), who raised specific concerns about goldfish being kept in small bags in the sun for days on end given the animal welfare implications this has. You can read more about why this campaign is important on the RSPCA website here.
The successful motion put forward by Cllr Wood reads as follows: “that Cabinet give consideration to the Council banning outright the giving of live animals as prizes, in any form, on Elmbridge Borough Council owned Land.”
This will now be referred to the Council’s Cabinet for a decision on whether the Council will adopt the motion or not. The next Cabinet meeting is scheduled to take place on Wednesday 15 September 2021.
Signing this petition will help Elmbridge Conservatives make sure the right decision is taken by Elmbridge Borough Council and animal welfare protection is improved in Elmbridge.
