So this campaign to bring public awareness about how the Nova Scotia SPCA treats their best staff members has morphed into a much LARGER cause; to Make Workplace Bullying Illegal all over NS! 

Nova Scotia is the ONLY jurisdiction that fails to protect employees from psychological workplace abuse & toxic work environments simply because of the wording in current law! Talk about behind the times!

I recently attended an Equity Watch meeting in Halifax, NS that discussed exactly that. It was a great turn out in which I heard many stories about people having gone through bullying in their workplace. So sad! Some folks have tried to create justice in their specific cases BUT when NS doesn't have the proper legislation it's impossible! Also VERY sad! 

There has been a private member of the NDP who recently introduced a bill and several recent readings in the House of Assembly about the lack of protection for psychologically abused workers in NS & the fact that we're the only jurisdiction without an up to date law! Current law only applies to physical abuse, which is way behind the times! 

We teach our children not to bully one another and to be kind, so WHY must we deal with this in our place of work? In the workplace a safety committee might walk around to check expiration dates on fire extinguishers BUT what about our mental safety? which ultimately impacts our physical health!
