To the Honourable Elizabeth May, leader of the Green Party of Canada and the Honourable Jagmeet Singh, leader of the NDP: we call on you to come together as one strong party to secure a better future for Canada.

The world's top scientists tell us we have 12 years to prevent catastrophic, irreversible climate change that will threaten the future of human life on earth. These are drastic times that call for extraordinary, bold, and courageous actions. The time for "business as usual" has long passed and we urgently need governments that are willing to listen to the science and implement the policies necessary to protect our future.

With a looming election and the Conservative Party now leading in the polls, the Liberal Party's dismal record on climate change action and their inability to uphold basic integrity and honesty, the Canadian left needs to join forces if there is any hope for a strong climate defender in Ottawa.  

There is more that unites the Green Party and the NDP than divides us. Rather than divide the left vote in Canada, these two parties should join forces and provide a strong, united voice for change. With a "first-past-the-post" electoral system still in place, there is no doubt that the two parties would be stronger together. For example, did you know that in the 2008 Canadian federal election, the NDP and Greens had enough combined votes to win an additional 11 ridings, 2 of which would have been won by the Greens. It would have cost the Conservatives 7 seats and the Liberals 4. Divided we lose, united we win. We are in a climate crisis, and we need to unite our voice if we want to protect our future and the future of life on this earth.
