MPs’ claims for gas, electricity and water amounted to £292,000 in 2022-23, according to an analysis of data from the Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority (IPSA)

With the majority of MPs who have second homes in London claiming energy costs between 3 -4k a year, you have to wonder what are they heating, the street?   A mansion?  They are certainly not concerned with the cost of living crisis.  No poor MPs remember!

There is no incentive to be ‘energy conscious ’  as the vast majority of the British are, because they are not paying the bills, we are!  How on earth can they run up energy bills to this extent?  Do they heat the property all day, every day, despite the long and arduous hours they claim to work, to midnight sometimes, when it would appear they spend relatively few hours at the second home.

As a pensioner, likely to lose the winter fuel allowance, and not eligible to claim pension credit, I am very energy conscious.  My boiler, which provides heating and hot water, is only switched on every other day, overnight!, for hot water only. Even so, my bills average £80 a month.  My heating is not on at all, because I simply don’t have money to pay for it.  I put on extra clothes, a hat, and will snuggle on the sofa with my dogs under a duvet or throw.  I have the windows open when I can for air flow, because damp and mould is a massive concern when living with COPD.

Please sign and share this petition to spread awareness of this issue.   It is currently got nearly 300 signatories and needs hundreds more.  Stand up to this flagrant abuse of public money and help to ensure that help for energy costs goes where it is needed.
