Eliminate Windows in Private Schools to Enhance Student Privacy
The Issue
I spent a significant portion of my childhood in a private school, a place of learning and, for many of us, a haven where we could discover our identities. The thought of our personal identities being compromised is justifiably disconcerting. Therefore, it is time we reconsider the necessity of windows in our private schools, as a measure to safeguard our students' privacy.
The transparency of windows can inadvertently expose students to unwanted attention and, in worst-case scenarios, become an avenue for identity theft. A study conducted by Javelin Strategy & Research reported that approximately 1 million children were victims of identity theft in 2017 (Source: Javelin Strategy & Research). While it is not expressly stated that these incidents arose due to exposure in schools, these staggering numbers give pause and warrant consideration for robust preventative measures.
Our request is not for classrooms to be joyless, prison-like institutions. Instead, we promote the use of smart design and new technologies, such as one-way mirror tints and frosted glasses. This change would provide the privacy students require without significantly altering the design or everyday operations of a school.
The safety and well-being of our children are of utmost importance. In a world where the theft of identity is a harsh reality, we need to consider every possible preventive measure to ensure their protection. Let us protect our children and their identities by eliminating plain windows in our private schools. Please sign this petition and help us ensure our next generations' safety and peace of mind.
